A short cloud burst did not stop paddlers from enjoying their beautiful, crystal clear route on the river in the southwest corner of Jackson County. Participants at the take out, enjoyed great homemade sloppy joe sandwiches and other food provided by GREAT at the Twin Pines Campground. Some spent the night here and resumed paddling to Homer the next day.

Huron River

A day of mixed weather with sun, clouds, and some rain, 27 GREAT paddlers traveled to the Huron River to do joint trip with the Great Lakes Paddlers (GLP) to do a nice stretch of the river between Ypsilanti and Metro Airport.

Vandercook Lake to Sharpe Park

On this beautiful day, 43 paddlers did this three hour route which has the variety of two big lakes, a wilderness lake, marsh land, forest, nice residential neighborhoods, and even two sets of dam rapids.

For the second year Jackson Area Outdoor Coalition sponsored this event for outdoor and environmental groups to have displays and events for the public. GREAT had over 200 paddlers use our 16 boats in a three hour period.
